π©πͺ Berlin, Breakthroughs & Board of Experts | GENDEX #04
Hi friends,
Greetings from Berlin! π©πͺ Last week we were at TOA, interviewing innovators about our key question: "Does investing in diverse startups lead to better returns?" π‘ The insights were incredibly promising.
GENDEX is making moves. β‘οΈ We now have a board of experts guiding our efforts, and we're gearing up for the TNW conference at the end of June in Amsterdam. If you're attending, catch me on the panel βThe ROI of supporting founders of colourβ. You can use code FOUNDERLAND20 to get a 20% discount off your ticket. π
And exciting newsβOvom Care, a women-led team, has raised β¬4.8m for their AI-assisted fertility clinics!π I spoke with founder Lynae Brayboy to get some insights.
What are your thoughts on the impact of diversity on investment returns? Sharing is caring. π¬

Insights from Lynae Brayboy M.D, founder of Ovom Care
I recently had the pleasure of interviewing Lynae Brayboy M.D, Chief Medical Officer and co-founder of Ovom Care. Our conversation brought insights to their journey raising as an all women team and commitment to improving womenβs health outcomes.
Could you elaborate on the vision and strategy of Ovom Care?
We are a patient centred clinic, ensuring that reproductive and IVF care is accessible to everyone, including diverse groups and unique family situations. Our branding, website, inclusive language, employee training, and product setup all focus on creating a safe and comfortable space. We aim to support those often marginalised in the fertility world, like people of colour, migrant groups, and individuals with elevated BMIs. Everyone deserves to be a parent and have a family built the way they want to.
How do you see this patient-centred approach impacting patient outcomes and overall satisfaction at Ovom Care?
When patients feel seen and supported, it reduces their anxiety and stress, which can positively influence their overall experience and outcomes. Our inclusive approach ensures that everyone receives the care and attention they deserve, and this has led to higher success rates and a more positive patient journey overall.
Ovom Care uses advanced technologies to enhance patient care. Can you tell us more about how you're using AI to support patients?
Our end-to-end approach utilises and employs not only AI tools but also technology that helps make it more efficient, a better patient experience, and an improvement in success rates. The AI tools assist in personalising care, predicting outcomes, and streamlining the overall process, making the journey smoother and more supportive for our patients.
Could you share the specific strategies and tactics you and your co-founders used to secure a β¬4.8 million seed round for Ovom Care?
Our success in securing funding was significantly supported by our incubator, Merantix, and my co-founder, Felicia, who was a founder-in-residence there. Merantix, our pre-seed investor, has a half-female board, which aligned with our values and helped us gain support. Their extensive network introduced us to investors who understood and believed in our mission. We're very pleased to have AIC and Ananda on our board, with AIC leading the seed round.
